Expanding and upgrading a power plant in the shadow of seismic unrest and volcanic activity is no small feat. Completing such a project on time and within budget — all while keeping the plant fully operational — is an achievement in itself.
The documentary In Harmony with Nature, directed by Baldvin Vernharðsson, tells the story of HS Orka through the voices of those who have been at the forefront of operating the Svartsengi power plant over the past two years. It follows the team as they worked on the expansion project and faced the significant challenges brought on by natural hazards — not least the lava flows from the Sundhnúkur crater row.
The documentary highlights the ingenuity, resilience, and adaptability of Icelanders, as well as the unique conditions under which HS Orka has operated in recent months, working in harmony with nature on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
