Four projects received grants in the second allocation from HS Orka’s Research Fund, which took place at HS Orka’s offices in Turninn in Kópavogur last week. The total amount awarded this year is ISK 14 million, and a total of 66 applications were submitted to the fund.
The fund provides grants for focused research projects related to the company’s operations and/or HS Orka’s sustainability priorities. Its objective is to strengthen knowledge within the company and promote progress and innovation in its activities.
The following four research projects received grants from the fund this year:
- CO₂ Atlas accounting and assessment of CO₂ emissions from geothermal systems at Svartsengi and Reykjanes
- Andri Stefánsson, Jarðhiti
- Quantifying the magmatic CO₂ and SO₂ inputs beneath Svartsengi
- Simon W. Matthews, Sæmundur Ari Halldórsson, Enikö Bali, Guðmundur Heiðar Guðfinnsson and Alberto Caracciolo, Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland
- Real-Time Detection of Geothermal Well Performance Changes Using Machine Learning and Historical Data
- María Sigríður, Agata Rostran Largeaspada, Reykjavík University, and Egill Júlíusson, Arctic Green Energy
- MagmaEst: Improving MAGMA Source Parameter Estimates at Svartsengi Based on Finite Element Ground Deformation Models
- Sonja Greiner and Halldór Geirsson, University of Iceland
The next allocation from the Research Fund will take place in one year’s time. Applications will be accepted through HS Orka’s application portal from January 15 to February 15, 2027.
