HS Orka will be well represented at the World Geothermal Congress 2026, taking place in Calgary, Canada next week, 8–11 June. A total of six employees from the company’s team of specialists will attend the conference this year, which is the largest of its kind in the world.
Our team will take an active part in the program. Lárus Þorvaldsson, Chief Reservoir Engineer, will deliver a presentation on volcanic monitoring systems. Lilja Magnúsdóttir, Executive Vice President of Resources, will moderate panel discussions in the workshop Our Climate Future. Björk Þórarinsdóttir, Chief Financial Officer, will participate in a closed roundtable on financing geothermal projects. Alma Gytha Huntingdon-Williams, Project Manager in Resource Management, will serve as co‑host in one of the conference workshops.
Other HS Orka representatives at the congress include Ásbjörn Blöndal, Project Manager and former Executive Vice President of Resources, and Lárus Guðmundsson, Project Specialist.
In his presentation Harnessing Geothermal Infrastructure for Volcanic Early Warning, Lárus Þorvaldsson will discuss how geothermal wells and monitoring systems can be used to strengthen volcanic surveillance and improve early‑warning capabilities for natural hazards.
Lilja Magnúsdóttir will take part in the Our Climate Future workshop, where she will moderate the panel Deep, Disruptive and Defining: Next Generation Geothermal. She will also join the panel Geothermal Pathways: From Vision to Bankability, which focuses on how geothermal projects can be developed from early‑stage concepts into bankable, executable projects.
Alma Gytha Huntingdon-Williams will co‑host the workshop IEA Gas Management Task Force. The session will present initial findings from an international collaboration focused on how emissions from geothermal plants are monitored, measured, and recorded, as well as ways to improve these processes.
We encourage conference attendees to meet HS Orka representatives at WGC and learn more about the company’s operations and the diverse geothermal projects our team is working on. HS Orka staff will be available at the Green by Iceland booth at 9:00 on Tuesday morning, 9 June.
