A total of 15 projects received grants in the second allocation round of the HS Orka Community Fund this year. The fund allocates grants twice annually, in spring and autumn. More than one hundred applications were submitted this time — the highest number to date. The fund distributes approximately ten million ISK each year.

The fund supports initiatives that have a positive impact on society, quality of life, and community wellbeing, with particular emphasis on projects in the communities surrounding HS Orka’s operations and on initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals adopted by HS Orka.

The projects receiving support this round include initiatives related to children’s sports and social activities, rescue and emergency services, culture, and music. They are:

  • Basketball training for children with special needs – UMFN
  • Boys Talk Together – Save the Children Iceland
  • 10th Anniversary of Vestri – Íþróttafélagið Vestri
  • Support for children’s sports participation – Ölli Memorial Fund
  • Renewal of river‑rescue equipment – Björgunarsveit Biskupstungna
  • Youth and new‑member training – Slysavarnadeildin Þorbjörn
  • Equipment and installation – Verzlunarfélag Árneshrepps
  • Parental support – Áróra Huld Bjarnadóttir
  • Equipment to support children with autism and complex needs – Myllubakkaskóli
  • Tree planting from Skarðshlíð and Vellir to Hvaleyrarvatn – Hafnarfjörður Forestry Association
  • Concerts for closed Alzheimer’s wards – Elligleði
  • National gathering of Icelandic women’s choirs 2026 – Kvennakór Suðurnesja
  • A Day in the Life of People with Disabilities – Átak
  • Strengthening youth social activities in Vogar – Boran Youth Center
  • Gamification of the Children’s Hospital – Þykjó ehf.

Through these grants, HS Orka aims to support outstanding and diverse projects that positively impact local communities and contribute to a more sustainable future.

The next allocation will take place in May, with applications open through HS Orka’s application portal from 1–30 April 2026. Further information about the fund and allocation criteria can also be found there.
